GLP-3RT

Triple GIP + GLP-1 + Glucagon Research
GLP-3RT is the name commonly used for research that targets three different systems at the same time — GIP, GLP-1 and glucagon. Researchers are studying this combination for its effects on appetite, blood sugar, energy use and body weight.
WHAT IS GLP-3RT?
GLP-3RT is a simple name often used to describe triple-agonist research. It does not refer to a naturally occurring hormone called GLP-3RT.
The best-known example is retatrutide, which is designed to work with three signals at once: GIP, GLP-1 and glucagon. GLP-1 and GIP are involved in hunger, fullness and blood sugar, while glucagon also affects how the body uses and releases energy.
Researchers are interested in whether combining all three can produce a stronger effect than targeting only one or two.
WHY IS GLP-3RT BEING STUDIED?
Appetite & Hunger
Being studied for how the combined signals may reduce hunger and help people feel satisfied with less food.
Weight Management
Research is looking at whether targeting three systems together can lead to larger changes in body weight.
Blood Sugar
GIP and GLP-1 both play important roles in how the body responds to food and manages blood sugar.
Energy Use
The glucagon part of the research is especially interesting because it may influence how the body uses and releases stored energy.
WHAT HAS THE RESEARCH SHOWN?
One of the best-known examples of GLP-3RT-style triple-agonist research is retatrutide, which targets GIP, GLP-1 and glucagon at the same time.
In a published 48-week Phase 2 clinical trial involving 338 adults with obesity or overweight, the highest studied dose of retatrutide produced an average body-weight reduction of about 24.2%, compared with about 2.1% with placebo.

WHY HAS GLP-3RT RESEARCH RECEIVED SO MUCH ATTENTION?
The interest comes from combining three different approaches in one compound. Instead of focusing only on hunger and fullness, triple-agonist research also looks at blood sugar and how the body uses energy. Early research with retatrutide produced some of the largest average weight changes seen in this type of study.
GLP-3RT IN SIMPLE TERMS
The simple version:
GLP-1 research works with one main system. Dual-agonist research works with two. GLP-3RT is the simple name people often use for research that works with three systems at once — GIP, GLP-1 and glucagon. Researchers are studying whether that three-part approach can have an even greater effect on appetite, weight and energy use.
